Call it the little brother of the GS-R or "Slalom light", no matter how, the Vector has established itself as a dominant model in the GUNSAILS range. 3 cambers and 7 tube battens form a deep profile through the 3D Wing Sleeve, allowing maximum acceleration, top speed and planing power. Nevertheless, the performance of the sail is easy to handle and is therefore more energy-saving compared to the GS-R. Thus the Vector is ideal for slalom intermediates as well as for slightly lighter windsurfers. But also ambitious slalom pilots will not miss anything here.
The new material configuration, consisting of two different monofilm thicknesses, improves the reactivity of the sail and makes it possible to generate more power and propulsion from the upper part of the sail. This also saves valuable weight.
The new arrangement of the Offset Clew makes the Vector even more adaptable. The inner eyelet provides better acceleration and top speed. The outer eyelet, which is 7 cm further outside, provides more fin pressure and increased drive through lulls.
The neoprene cover on the boom opening improves the aerodynamics of the sail and minimizes water ingress. With a focus on speed, sizes 5.0 and 5.6 are designed for RDM use only. The slightly softer profile increases the control required at high wind speeds and top speeds. Sizes 6.3 and 7.1 can optionally be rigged with RDM for even better handling. However you will require the additional RDM Camber Set.
With the performance of a competition sail and the PWA registration, the Vector is our energy-loaded freerace sail. Nevertheless, this enormous drive can be tamed with easy handling and low holding forces.

GUNSAILS | Sail Features - F.R.E.D.

F.R.E.D. will help you to fi nd the optimal luff trim for your sail. The mark is found in the upper sail window and serves as an orientation point to create the perfect luff tension (loose leech).

GUNSAILS | Sail Features - Top Guard

The large reinforcement at the sail top avoids abrasion and wearing out whilst rigging.

GUNSAILS | Sail Features - Vario Top

The top opening is enlarged for an easier mast insertion. The adjustment buckle is placed behind the mast; unnecessary webbing can be stowed in the top opening.

GUNSAILS | Sail Features - Mini Battens

Lightweight mini battens take control of the leech while twisting and avoid detrimental leech fl utter. In this way, the window fabrics are spared and the longevity of the sail is predefined.

GUNSAILS | Sail Features - Batten Guard

PVC tabs on the upper batten pockets prevent wearing out and abrasion whilst rigging.

GUNSAILS | Sail Features - Internal Trim Batten

The Internal Trim Batten system is completely integrated into the batten pocket and the battens can stay tensioned in the sail. The profi led end piece offers additional protection against abrasion.

GUNSAILS | Sail Features - Pocket Guard

A PVC braid, sewed on the bottom batten pocket, protects your sail from abrasion while uphauling and waterstarting.

GUNSAILS | Sail Features - Reduced Boom Length

The Reduced Boom Length design shortens the boom length. The handling is much easier and feels more compact. The sail control is signifi cantly improved. A shorter boom is generally stiffer and will assist in maintaining the sail stability and profile.

GUNSAILS | Sail Features - Offset Clew

The Wave sails are equipped with 2 clew eyelets which are set asymmetrically for individual tuning:

Upper eyelet for more power
Lower eyelet for more control

GUNSAILS | Sail Features - Trim Setting

The boom length is printed beside the clew. The mast lenght is patched on the mast protector.

GUNSAILS | Sail Features - Boom Position Control

The printed height scale at the boom opening helps you to easily remember your personal boom position.

GUNSAILS | Sail Features - Double Lock Seams

Double seams form the most stable connection between individual panels and different materials. They are used in stress zones as well as in areas of high tension and make your sail robust and durable.

GUNSAILS | Sail Features - Foot Guard

All seams in the significantly stressed foot area are protected by Dacron coverings. A PVC edging from foot to the first batten protects the leech edge against your board’s nonslip coating.

GUNSAILS | Sail Features - Comfort Pulley

The integrated triple pulley has large easy turning stainless brass rolls which greatly reduce the effort required for sail trimming. Also, if you prefer, the rolls are removable to allow the use of standard downhaul pulley hooks.

GUNSAILS | Sail Features - Sleeve Volumer

The GUNSAILS logo that is sewn on the sleeve keeps it open at the boom opening area like a clip and thus mast insertion is much easier.

GUNSAILS | Sail Features - Strap On

For very easy packing away and storage: Just roll the sail up and fix the elastic retainer.

GUNSAILS | Sail Features - Mesh Pocket

On the inside of the protector you will find a closable mesh pocket which can hold e.g. your downhaul surplus.

GUNSAILS | Sail Features - Mast Foot Protector

The large mast foot protector can be pulled back whilst rigging. The loop eases the initial pulling down of the sail. The uphaul can be comfortably inserted through an opening in the protector.

GUNSAILS | Sail Tech - Intelligent Material Assembly

The well designed combination of different materials allows weight savings without losing stability. By varying the stretch behaviour of the individual materials, we can precisely define each sail profile under pressure and guarantee you consistent sailing characteristics over the long term.

GUNSAILS | Sail Tech - Tension Frame

The Tension frame forms a functional unit with the smart clew construction. It is built from multidirectional x-ply and framed with insignia. Therefore it can resist maximum stress levels. The Tension frame receives the force from the clew and distributes the tension with the additional warp lines into the sail. The layout of the tension frame is designed to support the individual profile of every sail. Conclusively the tension frame improves the response of the sail and increases the profile stability. It also ensures long lasting sail characteristics and improves the overall durability of the sail.

GUNSAILS | Sail Tech - Double Lock Seams

Double Seams provide the most stable connection between panels or different materials. They find use in areas of high material tension and make your sail tough and durable.

GUNSAILS | Sail Tech - Smart Clew Construction

The Smart Clew Construction is based on the tension specific and precise alignment of different materials. The result is an extremely durable clew area without additional weight. Depending the sail the layout of the materials varies in order to suit the resulting tension lines in order to distribute the force from the clew, towards the Tension Frame into the sail. That helps to create more response, better profile stability and long lasting sail characteristics.

GUNSAILS | Sail Tech - Kevlar Stretch Control

Through the selected use of kevlar warp laminate, we are able to precisely define the stretch properties of every sail. This leads to more response and a long lasting and stable sail profile. The light and unidirectional kevlar threads show very low stretch, even under highest loads. They are individually positioned in each sail to suit its range of application, leading to long lasting performance and sail characteristics.

GUNSAILS | Sail Tech - Multidirectional X-Ply

Multidirectional X-Ply is used in high stress areas. The thread layout shows a higher density of polyester yarn, thus making the material more resistant than the regular X-Ply. The additional vertical thread direction allows the material to take more tension and force in the critical tension line.

GUNSAILS | Sail Tech - Square-Ply

The square ply is based on the same concept as X-ply material. However the threads are aligned in a 90 degree angle and the material offers a higher overall thread density. That allows us to reduce the thickness of the included monofilm to save weight, but ensure durability at the same time.

GUNSAILS | Sail Tech - X-Ply

X-PLY the all time classic of the reinforced laminates. It is light, stable and has a good transparency. Therefore it is used in the window area of the Wave-and Cross Over Sails. X-Ply also does withstand higher punctual stress. In case of a cut, the threads avoid further damage because they stop the cut from spreading through the window.

DESIGN: The group of 7.8sqm has become much more performance-oriented this year and that's why we have taken a closer look at the Vector instead of the moderate Sunray from GUNSAILS. The difference between these two sails is really enormous! The Vector is the superlative sail in this test group. The heaviest, cheapest and the sail with the biggest mast sleeve arouses deep-seated fears at our freestylers and makes speed junkies' eyes glow. It is surprisingly easy to set up. With the right know how, the cambers almost slip to the mast and are easily accessible through the large mast pocket and long zippers. The batten at the height of the boom is protected against chafing by a rubber lip. For good reason! Because the deep profile likes to nestle close to the boom. In order to control the deep profile even in more wind, the Vector tolerates powerful tension on the luff and a corresponding amount of loose leech. It is hardly noticeable between pure race sails anymore.

ON THE WATER: The Vector is really not a lightweight, but subjectively it doesn't seem as heavy in the test group as some people might fear. At the first gust, all you have to do is make a pumping move and then off into the foot straps to take acceleration to the limit. The rider should then be able to push the limits and bring a suitable board, because the Vector has its strengths clearly in the middle to upper wind range. The top twists harmoniously and despite the deep profile the pressure point is as if nailed down, so that you can relax and enjoy how you rush past the rest of the riders. The lower pressure point also affects the board, which is more controlled. Thus the fast GUNSAILS also fits on nervous slalom boards. In jibes the Vector is a reliable partner and the cambers rotate without problems, but seems rather sluggish. If the jibe does not yet fit perfectly, the wide mast pocket makes you fear when water starting.

CONCLUSION: GUNSAILS has well differentiated its range of camber sails. While the Sunray planes passively better and has its strong points in the lower wind range, the Vector is a real full-power sail for ambitious leisure use. If you want to get a taste of competition air and have experience with camber sailing, you get an incredibly fast product for relatively little money.

DESIGN: The 2018 Vector takes over the better acceleration and better planing through lulls from the GS-R slalom sail. The profile is clearly more impressive than with the Sunray and has also become deeper in the lower area, where it is supported by 3 cambers. A 9,2 for light wind or heavy riders has been added.

ON THE WATER: For a Freerace sail it is easy to set up and has a useful trim mark. The GUNSAILS is enormous, but without any different dimensions compared to its sporty competitors. With its 3 cambers, its very wide mast sleeve and its low profile, which can be pulled down by a loop at the mast base (tack strap), the Vector shows a clear presence. Due to its cut with a lot of volume in the front area, the profile comes very close to a race sail. For this reason, it is also a little heavier when pumping than the lighter sails, clearly stiffer. You need some experience with camber sailing to find the balance of the rig. Once properly adjusted, his profile is firmly fixed, with an immovable handling. The ability to move is good with little feedback up to medium wind, when you're at top speed, the Vector shows one of the best performances of the group. This engine distinguishes under full load from others, where it then uses its watt power for dynamic driving. On the other hand, the ease of handling is somewhat declining. In the jibe you almost have to accept the bulkiness of a race sail.

CONCLUSION: With a bomb price, the Vector clearly sets its label in the direction of sporty machines. The 3 Cam GUNSAILS distinguishes itself from this group and the Sunray by higher performance and top speed - at the expense of handling. With this technology, the Vector is aimed at experienced users of camber sails who place particular emphasis on performance and also want to fire a corresponding freerace board with this sail.

+: Performance, top speed, stability, price
-: Minus: Bulkiness

With a wide mast sleeve in this group and a deep profile and loose leech, the Vector is completely designed with light x-ply in the upper area. It is quick and easy to set up, with a trim mark in the top for correct luff tension.

ON THE WATER: An explosive acceleration for planing, good performance and power, when pumping, the Vector is dynamic and gives feedback. The force is in the front/centered and direct, can be well channelled in light and medium winds, with the good work of the top absorbing the excess pressure well. It pulls powerfully forward, you can put pressure on your legs to accelerate and keep the board planing even in wind holes, with only a little more effort than with others. In strong winds the change to the lower clew eye allows an easier guidance of the sail, it also becomes softer and one saves energy on long reaches: this is the pure planing setting. When the wind is steady, it is a real pleasure with the additional option of removing tension from the clew; the pressure point does not move backwards and you get even more lift.
It is one of the stiffest of the sailing feeling, the most dynamic in gusts, it already has some genes of a race sail. Everything is good up to a certain wind force, where it shows an excess of dynamics, in such a way that it becomes somewhat more unstable than other sails. This does not prevent it from achieving a high final speed. In the jibe the camber rotation is excellent, it is only a little stiffer and a little harder when driving out of the jibe.

CONCLUSION: The Vector is a sporty freerace sail with swing, good planing characteristics and a certain simplicity (when rigging), without being the easiest of the group when pulling out of the water. It approaches the feeling of a race sail and likes it best in the lower and middle wind range.

+: Easy to set up, speed, acceleration, price, trim possibilities, performance
-: A little more nervous in gusts, not the easiest when pulling out of the water (wide mast sleeve in this group)
