POWER WAVE SAIL

The Horizon cleverly combines outstanding planing performance, great control and easy handling. Whether you're riding light waves in bumpy winds or in gorgeous side shore conditions, the Horizon is a true chameleon and adapts to all conditions.

KEY FACTS:
> Extra power for more planing performance and lift
> Wide range of uses from Radical Wave to Bump and Jump
> Offset Clew: Two offset clew eyelets for individual tuning, setting for power or control
> 100 % X-Ply / Square-Ply for extreme loads
> Preference for RDM, but also tolerates SDM

With sufficient profile and a clearly defined center of effort, the Wave sail pulls crisply from the start and takes you quickly into planing and through the surf. At the same time it accelerates incredibly for a wave sail and therefore also brings great upwind characteristics.
The sail range is adaptive, the smaller sizes up to 5.0 sqm are less profiled and designed for more sensitive wave riding. From 5.3 onwards the profile gets fuller and the Horizon is ready for powerful power wave riding or bump and jump action. With its 5 battens it lies ultra stable in your hands and is easy to maneuver, a real plus for wave beginners.
If you are looking for a wave sail with kick, huge wind range and also the license to bump and jump, you will be thrilled with the Horizon.

TESTS

WINDNEWS ITALY - JUNE 2021 / HORIZON 5.7 2021

Rapport de Test Wave Sail Voile vague

In 2020 we tested GunSails' "big" four-batten wave sail, the Seal 5.7... this time we're taking on the same size of the five-batten power wave model: the Horizon 5.7, which comes in nine sizes from 3.7 to 6.1.

The proven 5-batten shape makes it even more suitable in this size than the Seal 5.7 as a freewave/bump&jump sail and also as a freeride sail, without losing sight of its role as a power wave, which is very suitable for our swells. A sail that is very easy to rig, because in this size you can combine it with rdm or sdm 430/21 masts without too many restrictions, and in both cases it doesn't take long to trim the sail optimally. For the test we paired it with our rdm Reptile Fibra 100 430/21 and it's likely that the sail gained in responsiveness, considering how the mast in question "reacts".

On the water, we immediately found ourselves with an intuitive sail that requires no special concentration to perform at its best even in light and gusty wind conditions. When the wind is really " light", as is often the case when using a 5.7 in the waves, you simply have to use the higher eyelet which "closes" the sail a little and makes it more planing and powerful. In normal or windy conditions it is better to use the lower eyelet as the Horizon already offers a fast planing start with constant sail pressure, but in this setting, in the strongest gusts, the upper part of the sail works great, making the leech "breathe" better and we get a super stable sail profile.

When jibing, the Horizon plays up its qualities as a wave sail.... quite light in the arms, agile, but also a bit less neutral and sensitive in the surf than the Seal. But all in all... a super flexible sail, offered at the usual super price and guaranteeing a really wide range of use: it can be used in wave spots, but also in flat water and chop, it feels comfortable in medium/light winds, it can be ridden more freely than the Seal 5.7 even in strong and gusty winds thanks to the five-batten shape. Nice!
